Giving has been an integral
part of Kendal-Crosslands Communities ever since it's inception
over 30 years ago.
Kendal at Longwood came to be as the
result of the generosity of Margaret Thomas who left her estate
to the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting "for the use of aging
Friends and others in sympathy with us". A portion
of her gift was appropriated as a seed money grant, to purchase
the land, pay for architectural work and for an executive director
to start Kendal at Longwood on its way. Subsequently, it
has been the generosity of numerous others that has ensured the
success and viability of Kendal-Crosslands Communities.
General/Unrestricted
Funds – these funds allow the Board to use
principal and income to support the highest priority, such as
direct debt reduction, with its moderating effect on monthly fee
increases. The flexibility afforded by unrestricted funds, whether
they come in the form of a gift, a memorial contribution, or bequest,
allows the Board to apply the money exactly where it is needed
most, whenever it is received. Donors have the choice of making
an unrestricted contribution to Kendal at Longwood, Crosslands
or Kendal-Crosslands Communities.
Support
for Staff – Staff Support Funds have been
established by KCC to fulfill our stated mission, and also by
residents and family members in appreciation of the very special
care given by the staff to residents.
-
Staff Education
Programs support Kendal’s stated value to “foster
a high quality work experience for employees, recognizing
that our communities must be good places to work if they are
to be good places to live.”
-
The Anne
Perry Fund helps students pursue their educations
by providing meaningful work experiences at KCC during the
summer.
-
The A. &
E. duPont Kendal Staff Support Fund was established
as a memorial to Averell Ross duPont and her husband Edmond,
Kendal at Longwood residents, to provide help to staff in
times of emergency.
-
The Robert
N. and Lenora C. Zearfoss Endowment Fund for Crosslands Staff
Support was established by Crosslands resident Robert
Zearfoss, whose wife Lenora was cared for in the health center
for many months.
-
The Louis
P. Mullestein Scholarship Fund, introduced last year
as the Child Development Center Fund, provides an endowed
source of income for assistance to employees who need help
with childcare costs in our on-site Child Development Center.
Assistance
for Residents – Resident Assistance Funds
serve persons who, because of a lifetime of religious, educational,
or charitable work, may not have accumulated the assets to cover
the full costs of living in our communities.
-
Kendal at
Longwood and Crosslands Reserve Funds make it possible
to provide grants to current residents who may experience
financial reverses or have a one-time need.
-
The Kendal-Crosslands
Assistance Fund for New Residents make it possible
to provide entry fee grants for applicants who otherwise could
not enter Kendal at Longwood and Crosslands.
