Kendal~Crosslands Communities’ personal care residency received the highest rating by the readers of the Daily Local News winning the Best Assisted Living in Chester County in the recent Readers Choice Award program. “Although we are licensed as a personal care residency, this is truly an honor since we didn’t seek out the award yet people who received excellence in our care – cared to nominate us for the award”, says Michele Berardi, Director of Community Outreach. Kendal~Crosslands has two health centers so there was reason to host two celebrations. Gatherings took place with both residents and staff to recognize not only the Readers Choice Award but to also celebrate the consistent highest quality rating (5 Star Quality) from the Federal government’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for their nursing residency. Since the inception of the Five Star Quality rating in December 2008, Kendal-Crosslands Communities has consistently maintained a 5 Star rating.
“Kendal has worked to transform our culture’s view of aging and of older persons, stressing the potential for fulfillment and continuing contribution during the later stages of life”, says Phil DeBaun, Chief Executive Officer of Kendal~Crosslands Communities. “As our values state, we are committed to the belief that human life is sacred and that all people are to be treated with dignity and respect and our staff excel in living the values and we are happy to celebrate these milestone with them”, says DeBaun. Caroline Young, who is a resident at Kendal at Longwood’s Personal Care residency, is 103 years young. She attended the celebration and was thrilled to offer her congratulations. “If it weren’t for the staff, I wouldn’t feel and be as healthy as I am”, says Young.
Kendal~Crosslands Communities is an accredited CCRC by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. This accreditation officially recognizes health and human service providers as having met standards for high quality of service. In addition, the Community also received accreditation as a Person-Centered Long-Term Care Community (PCCLTC) which demonstrates their ability to foster a holistic culture that focuses on: autonomy, dignity, and individual choice of the persons served, cultural competence, flexibility, families/support systems, and understanding what residents want, how the services should be delivered, and how the residents can be engaged in the community.
