Kendal-Crosslands Cares: Annual Toy Drive is a Success

Kendal Crosslands at Tick TockOne of the most anticipated events of the year at Kendal-Crosslands Communities is the toy drive for the Tick Tock Early Learning Center in Avondale, Pa. This sixth annual event and subsequent delivery of gifts on December 22 once again brought joy to the hearts of both the children at Tick Tock Learning Center and those who donated.

The toy drive began in 2011 when the Kendal-Crosslands Communities Diversity Committee developed a partnership with the Tick Tock Early Learning Center as part of an initiative to join forces with diverse local organizations.

Every year since, the Kendal-Crosslands Communities sets up a Christmas tree with about 100 ornaments representing every child at the Tick Tock Early Learning Center for a resident or staff member to choose. Each ornament has the name and age of a child, so the gift giver can get a better idea of what to donate and to better personalize their gift. This year, to include a wider array of people, the gift shop at Kendal-Crosslands joined in the holiday spirit by stocking recommended gifts so that residents were able to conveniently participate.

The residents then spent the morning with the children while they opened their gifts and sang carols.

“The children and staff members are always grateful for the donations, and residents appreciate that they can participate in such a meaningful project,” explains Audrey Super, Director of Human Resources at the Kendal-Crosslands Communities and one of the organizers of the annual toy drive. “This event definitely helps everyone involved embrace the spirit of giving during the holiday season.”

Tick Tock Early Learning Center has been serving economically challenged families in the Chester County area for nearly six decades by providing high quality, reliable day care.
