Kendal~Crosslands Communities received several levels of industry accreditation awarded by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The accreditation by CARF officially recognizes the Life Plan Community also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) as a health and human service provider as having met standards for high quality of service. “Consumers face a variety of options when deciding what retirement community to choose, what senior services are appropriate, and who should provide them”, says Michele Berardi, Director of Public Relations and Community Outreach. “Accreditation is a sign of quality and should be an important consideration in their decision making”, says Berardi.
In addition to the CCRC accreditation, Kendal~Crosslands also received accreditation as a Person-Centered Long-Term Care Community (PCLTC) which demonstrates their ability to foster a holistic culture that focuses on: autonomy, dignity, and individual choice of the persons served, cultural competence, flexibility, families/support systems, and understanding what residents want, how the services should be delivered, and how the residents can be engaged in the community. Also, certification was awarded in the Dementia Care Specialty Program (DCSP) category. DCSP delivers services that focus on the unique and changing physical, cognitive, communication, emotional, psychosocial, behavioral, occupational, medical, palliative, educational, environmental, and leisure/recreational needs of person with dementia.
The Community’s health care programs are designed to help residents stay well and to maintain their highest level of self-care and independence. The focus is maintaining residents’ well-being and preventive care; and promoting residents’ active participation in their health care decisions. “It’s our dedicated staff, teamwork, and our culture which is why we received these honors”, says Donna Taylor, Chief Health Services Officer.
“Kendal has worked to transform our culture’s view of aging and of older persons, stressing the potential for fulfillment and continuing contribution during the later stages of life”, says Phil DeBaun, Chief Executive Officer. “As our values state, we are committed to the belief that human life is sacred and that all people are to be treated with dignity and respect and our staff excel in living the values and we are happy to celebrate these milestone with them”, says DeBaun.
