Residents have a number
of opportunities to become involved in the volunteer governance
of Kendal-Crosslands Communities, including service on the Communities
Board of Directors, service on committees of the Board, and involvement
in resident governance through the Resident Associations and their
committees.
Resident
Service on Kendal-Crosslands Communities Board of Directors
The Communities Board seeks directors whose lives are in harmony
with Kendal Values and Standards. A minimum of two-thirds of the
persons serving on the Board are members of the Religious Society
of Friends, and at least two members of the Board, but not more
than 20% of the total number of directors, are residents of one
of the Communities. The Board Development Committee makes its
nominations for resident members from a pool of names that have
been suggested by residents of the Communities, taking into consideration
needed skills and talents.
Resident Service on Board Committees
The Kendal-Crosslands Communities Board of Directors utilizes
a number of committees to carry out the day-to-day work of the
Board. Most committees (with the exception of the Board Development
Committee) include resident members. The nominations for these
committees are generated by the Board Development Committee based
on suggestions made by the residents of the Communities. Examples
of board committees that provide opportunities for resident involvement
include the Finance, Property, Long Range Planning, and Outreach
Committees.
Resident Associations
Resident Associations are organized in each of the four KCC communities
and provide numerous opportunities for resident involvement and
service. These Associations are responsible for the oversight
of resident life at the Communities. They operate independently
and are composed only of the residents of each community, all
of whom are automatically voting members of the association. A
volunteer Board of Directors and officers who are elected annually
govern each Resident Association. Nominations for the board and
officer positions are generated by the residents of each community.
