Groundbreaking Ceremony
Kennett Square – On August 25, Kendal~Crosslands Communities celebrated the groundbreaking of eight new cottages and an apartment building featuring ten residences. The new homes will be located on their Crosslands campus. Planning started a year ago, and despite a global pandemic, the community moved forward and will soon welcome new residents to the campus.
For Lisa Marsilio, Chief Executive Officer, “we began the design phase of our new homes a year ago, amidst challenging times yet, today we celebrate our achievements- – getting to groundbreaking. This accomplishment is a testament to the fortitude and tenacity of our Board, residents, partners, and staff members. For their commitment, we are grateful”, says Marsilio.

In addition, environmental stewardship is a key factor as we embark on any project or as we evaluate our operations. “Our new homes will be high-performance buildings that meet Department of Energy’s zero-energy ready standards,” says Seth Beaver, Senior Director of Resident and Community Affairs and Capital Projects.
The new homes will be both one-bedroom with a den and two-bedroom residences.
The community’s 500-acre campus is also home to a Level II Arboretum with a great diversity of trees and terrain. “What’s just as important as the new homes is the land”, says Joyce Lenhardt, Principal at Lenhardt Rodgers, the architectural design firm. “The residents inspired us to design new living spaces with the value of preserving, protecting, and balancing what is best for the community and nature”, says Lenhardt. In addition, the cottages and apartments will have many windows to enjoy nature and the outdoors. All the homes include balconies, patios, and updated amenities for comfortable living. The community is working with members of their Wait List and looking forward to welcoming their new neighbors next year.
